Afternoon: Arrival at Garner State Park
Shady Meadows Camping Area: This loop features 12 full hookup, pull-through sites (sites #144-155), each equipped with water, sewer, and 20/30/50-amp electrical hookups. Note that tents are not allowed in this area, and there is limited shade.
Live Oak and Persimmon Hill Loops: These areas offer sites with water and 30-amp electric hookups. They are typically open from March through November, closing during the winter months.
Evening: Leisure Activities
Frio River Relaxation: Take a leisurely stroll along the Frio River, known for its clear waters and scenic beauty. The river is lined with bald cypress trees, some of which can live up to 600 years.
Campfire Gathering: As the sun sets, gather around a campfire at your site. Ensure you adhere to park regulations regarding fire safety and use designated fire rings.
Morning: Hiking Adventure
Old Baldy Trail: Embark on the iconic Old Baldy Trail, a challenging hike that ascends approximately 500 feet to the summit of Mount Old Baldy, which stands at 1,849 feet above sea level. The trail is steep and rocky but rewards hikers with panoramic views of the park and the Frio River below.
Afternoon: Leisure and Recreation
Swimming and Tubing: Cool off in the Frio River. The park offers designated swimming areas, and during peak seasons, paddle boat and kayak rentals are available.
Picnicking: Enjoy a picnic at one of the park's scenic spots. Many areas are equipped with tables and grills.
Evening: Park Traditions
Summer Dance: If visiting during the summer months, participate in the park's tradition of evening dances held at the pavilion. This tradition dates back to the 1940s and offers a unique cultural experience.
